Kate Tjeerdsma is a senior biology major at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. She is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, National Mathematics Honor Society (KME), and the Tri-Beta Biological Sciences Honor Society. At Wartburg, Kate is also involved in vocal music, piano, theater, and chemistry club. Kate’s hobbies include music, painting, reading, hiking, and backpacking. During her time as an undergraduate student, she has enjoyed a study abroad experience in Israel, Jordan, and Palestine. Kate’s research interests include experiments relating fructose consumption to leptin resistance. Her future plans include earning a Master of Science degree in nursing and pursuing a career as a nurse anesthetist.
